Goal

The goal of bilingual education and English as a second language programs is to enable limited English proficient students to become competent in the listening, speaking, reading, and writing of the English language. These programs emphasize the mastery of English language skills and content area concepts and skills in order for students to be able to participate effectively in the regular program.

Features

In the bilingual program, Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for required courses are provided to students in their native language in the primary grades. Fully certified teachers with bilingual endorsements help students acquire English skills while learning content in their native language. State adopted textbooks in English and in Spanish are used as curriculum tools. Commercial or teacher-made materials are also used as supplementary resources
