Students attend Sea Camp at Texas A & M-Galveston
August 04, 2009
This summer, Celeste Guajardo and
Lizette Villarreal, sophomores at La Villa High School attended Sea
Camp at the Texas A & M Galveston campus. Both students were
awarded an all expense paid scholarship to participate in a
week-long, hands-on internship.
Founded in 1986, Sea Camp opened up the
world of marine biology to over 11,500 campers during its 21 years
of existence. Participants have come to Sea Camp from across the
country to take advantage of all the educational opportunities that
it has to offer.
The week-long adventure allowed for
exploring the wonders of the marine and estuarine environments. As
Sea Campers, on the Galveston campus Celeste and Lizette had access
to TAMUG research vessels, oceanographic equipment, laboratory
facilities, and a professional staff enabling them to learn about
the ocean through first-hand experiences.
The students also participated in a career
oriented course. These career-oriented courses helped the students
expand their horizons with a preparatory course in the field of
their choice. Both students participated in the Forensic Science
courses.
