Parents' Day at Muñoz Elementary
Parental Involvement
October 05, 2009
Parents’ Day at Muñoz Elementary
Over 80 parents packed into the J. B. Muñoz cafeteria on Friday
afternoon, September 25, 2009, to discuss issues of interest
concerning their children. They were also treated to talented
performances by our Pre-K 4 and Kinder students.
“I was passing out the handouts,” said one parent. “So I had to
work and watch at the same time.”
The handouts included the agenda for the afternoon, which featured
singing and dancing, as well as a presentation by Nurse Joy Cortez.
She spoke on the topic of the H1N1 virus, an appropriate talk at
this time of the year. After the Pledge of Allegiance, which was
led by the Kinder classes, the entire show was related to health in
one way or another.
“My kids did two numbers,” said teacher Berta Reyes. “They first
danced ‘The Mulberry Bush,’ which deals with good grooming. Then
they sang a song identifying the body parts. They were
excellent.”
Most parents were enthusiastic about their children’s
performance.
“They looked so cute, the way they sang their two little songs,”
said one of them. “I came to see my little niece, it was fun.”
One couple was not as fortunate. With the program beginning
promptly and running on time, you had to be quick to get a good
seat and catch the whole show. “Our child is in Pre-K 4,” said the
father. “And we missed her part.”
Another father had to miss the latter part because he was picking
up his children who are in another grade level.
“I had to go get them,” he said. “I didn’t want them getting on the
bus if I missed them.”
Very nice door prizes were given away after the program, but maybe
the biggest winner was Dr. Macaria Salinas, our Parental
Involvement Director. She had parents being part of the program
before, during, and after the show. And she even got to
recruit.
“I want to volunteer to help with one of these clubs,” said an
interested parent. “I just want to help any way I can.”
Apparently the day was helpful for everyone.
